Bravo to the A Cappella Chorus who performed their last concert of the school year, Wednesday, April 29, at Germantown Church of Christ. Parents of the senior A Cappella members were asked to join their students for the senior song, “Give Thanks to the Lord,” written by former director, Dan Burdette. It was a tearful moment as these parents and students held hands for this last concert. The performance closed with the alumni members joining the group for the traditional last two pieces, “My God and I” and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.” Congratulations to Brooks Gatlin on a wonderful first year.
I want to thank everyone for another wonderful Taste of Harding event last Saturday. We were blessed with beautiful weather to welcome over 550 guests. Because of your support, over $85,000 was raised to benefit the students at Harding Academy.
Special thanks to Kathie Ray, Tricia Mullins, the Taste of Harding Committee, our entire development staff, and the countless volunteers who made our evening together so successful. I appreciate the wide support from our faculty and staff, and I am eternally grateful for your continued willingness to give your time and resources to keep Harding strong. Of course, the success of this event would not be possible without the support of many vendors and sponsors who gave so generously. Our restaurant awards went to the following: Lions’ Choice – Frost Bake Shop; Best Signature Dish – Las Delicias; Best Taste – One & Only BBQ. The next time you are planning an evening out or a special event, please consider one of our Taste of Harding partners . . .

Congratulations to the sixth grade class – Class of 2021 – who “bridged” Tuesday evening, May 5, 2015, at the Cherry Road campus. The Bridge Ceremony recognizes the transition from lower school to junior high. It is an exciting time for these students and we look forward to seeing them at the Next Big Thing immersion program in July and then back for school in August!
Yearbook assembly day is always an exciting time – especially for the senior class!
Message to senior parents:
The seniors will gather back together following graduation practice and lunch around noon for pictures before their senior walk-in on Friday, May 8. This is a very special memory and you will want to be present if you can. Following the senior walk-in, the senior video (to date) will be shown. It will be finalized after graduation. The yearbooks will be presented and of course, Mr. and Miss. Harding will be announced. Plan on being at the upper school (Cherry Road campus) around noon to take pictures (but no later than 12:30 p.m.).
Senior parents who have questions about the video or lock-in should contact Suzanne Avery.
Harding Academy will offer sports physicals for students entering grades SK-12 on Saturday, May 9 from 8-10 a.m. in the elementary gym at our Cherry Rd. location. Cost is $20.00. This physical will cover athletes for Fall, Winter and Spring sports for the entire 2015-2016 school year. All athletes are required to have a new physical each year in order to participate in sports. Please call the athletic office at 767-4466 if you have any questions.
Congratulations to the Harding choruses for a beautiful Spring Concert on Sunday, April 26. Thank you to White Station Church of Christ for hosting performance. The Junior Chorus, A Cappella Chorus, and Small Ensemble gave one of their best performances all season. Bravo to Brooks Gatlin, director, for an outstanding first year. Scroll down to see photos.
The A Cappella recently competed in the Heritage Music Festival in Atlanta where earned a Gold rating and placed First in their division.
This is a recap of their trip from director, Brooks Gatlin:
This weekend our varsity track teams competed in the TSSAA Division II-A State Invitational in Nashville. Both the guys and girls teams finished in first place, bringing the championship trophies back to Memphis. This means that our track teams are the best in the entire state in Division II-A. Calvin Austin III was named MVP of the meet for the second year in a row, further solidifying his reputation as the best runner in Division II-A. Harding Academy announces the unveiling of the newly renovated Lady Lions locker room in Sisson Gymnasium. In addition to a new vanity area, showers, flooring, and sinks, new wood lockers provide sufficient locker space for each varsity and junior varsity female athlete. The entire space has been re-painted, the ceiling replaced, and air conditioning added. Our Lady Lions now have a space to be proud of, a space that will inspire them to give their best each time they compete. In addition, three of our current Lady Lions, Ellie Arnett, Katie Grace Short, and Rachel Hickman, painted original murals on each end of the locker room.
On Thursday, April 30, the Harding Cordova early childhood students presented “The Sights and Sounds of Memphis” as their spring program for 2015. Each class performed an action-packed song as they welcomed their visitors to Memphis via the Memphis bridge, showed them some excitement with the Memphis Red Birds, demonstrated the unique ducks of The Peabody Memphis, thrilled them with a Memphis Grizzles exhibition, introduced them to the one and only Elvis Presley of Memphis’s Graceland, and proudly displayed the wonderful Harding Lions. It was a sight to see!
