Pottery Students Learn Raku Firing Method
Mr. Efaw and our pottery students heated up the Raku kiln recently for a special firing. Pots were heated to 1800 degrees in an hour time span, placed in metal cans with combustible materials, then plunged into cans of water.
Some students used the Obvara firing technique. Pieces come out of the kiln blank, and the design is revealed only after the pieces are dipped in a milky substance. The same piece can be re-dipped and re-fired, revealing something different each time.
