Mary Spraggins Wins DAR Essay Contest

Congratulations to Mary Spraggins (5) for writing the winning essay in the Daughters of the American Revolution American History essay contest. Students were tasked to write an essay from the perspective of a newspaper reporter hearing John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” for the first time. Mary’s essay was chosen from among 77 submitted to the Watauga Chapter of DAR, and Mrs. Maria Burke made the presentation in chapel last Friday.
