Daily Memphian 2021 Postseason Track and Field Awards and All-Metro Teams
Below are the Harding Academy athletes who made the list of Daily Memphian track and field postseason award winners, along with coach of the year and all-metro teams for the 2021 season. Honorees were selected based on regular and postseason performance with an emphasis given to the latter.
Coach of the year
Seth King, Harding: King guided the Lions to not one, but two state championships in 2021, as both the boys and girls teams captured Division 2-A titles during competition at Rockvale High last month. He also coached three individual state champions in Monterius Williams (triple jump), Jamal Mitchell (discus) and Emily Howard (discus) while producing a remarkable 20 athletes who received all-metro honors.
Boys Division 2 all-metro team
William Adkins, Harding, freshman (300 hurdles); Joshua Dabney, Harding, junior (shot put, discus); Justin Davis, Harding, sophomore (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, long jump, triple jump, decathlon); Cole Galbreath, Harding, senior (pole vault).
Clay Hawley, Harding, senior (800); Adam Heaton, Harding, senior (pole vault); Andy Henton, Harding, senior (1,600, 3,200); Jamal Mitchell, Harding, senior (shot put).
Thornton Mitchell, Harding, senior (100); Jaxon Toney, Harding (110 hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump); Monterius Williams, Harding, junior (triple jump).
Harding 400 relay, 800 relay and 3,200 relay.
Girls Division 2 all-metro team
Mattie Baughman, Harding, sophomore (pole vault); Monique Chew, Harding, senior (shot put).
Alicia Howard, Harding, freshman (high jump); Emily Howard, Harding, senior (discus); Madie Liberto, Harding, sophomore (100 hurdles); Trinity Malone, Harding, junior (shot put); Emory Miller, Harding, eighth grade (200, 400).
Emily Patterson, Harding, senior (300 hurdles, long jump, triple jump, pentathlon); Whitney Smith, Harding, junior (triple jump).
