Creating Pottery with Raku Firing
Last week our pottery students used raku firing to create some incredible works of art. Raku is a process where pots are taken from the kiln while glowing red hot and placed in a material that easily catches fire such as sawdust or newspaper. This starves the pot of oxygen and gives the glaze a wonderful variety of colors. This was such a great hands-on learning experience that some other teachers brought their students to see the process as well.
