Carissa Thompson is First Runner-up in State Poetry Out Loud Competition
Congratulations to senior Carissa Thompson who took first runner-up in the 2021-2022 Tennessee State Poetry Out Loud competition on Saturday, March 5. She will receive $500, and the Harding Academy English Department will receive $600.
Carissa recited these three poems:
“Enough” by Suzanne Buffam
“The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus
“We are not Responsible” by Harryette Mullen
Carissa will also present at Tennessee Shakespeare’s literary salon Amongst the Stars of Jesmyn Ward on Sunday, March 27. The salon will consist of curated readings, scenes, and discussions. We’re proud of you, Carissa! #hardingstrong
