Lady Lions Locker Room Unveiled
Harding Academy announces the unveiling of the newly renovated Lady Lions locker room in Sisson Gymnasium. In addition to a new vanity area, showers, flooring, and sinks, new wood lockers provide sufficient locker space for each varsity and junior varsity female athlete. The entire space has been re-painted, the ceiling replaced, and air conditioning added. Our Lady Lions now have a space to be proud of, a space that will inspire them to give their best each time they compete. In addition, three of our current Lady Lions, Ellie Arnett, Katie Grace Short, and Rachel Hickman, painted original murals on each end of the locker room.
The locker room renovation was a parent-led initiative spearheaded by Mrs. Kelly Horner, Mrs. Cindy Savage, and Mrs. Michelle Stubbs. These mothers, as well as the many donors involved in this project, were recognized at an open house on Thursday evening, April 30. Cash donations of over $34,000.00, as well as thousands of dollars worth of labor, equipment, and supplies made the renovation possible. Harding Academy’s facilities department helped keep the project in budget by doing much of the work in house. Mrs. Alanna Mizell painted a picture that will hang in the locker room in honor of the many donors who made this renovation possible.
The Sisson Gymnasium was named in honor of Mrs. Jewel Sisson on October 2, 1995. Mrs. Sisson served for many years as president of the Cherry Road Parents Club and then accepted an invitation in 1988 to serve on Harding Academy’s Board of Directors. At the locker room open house, Mrs. Sisson was recognized for her decades of service and generosity to Harding Academy. Mrs. Sisson was able to meet many of the young women who continue to benefit from her generosity even today and to see the recent renovations and improvements to the Lady Lions locker room.
