Varsity Track Heads to State
The Harding Academy track team recently competed in the Division II West Sectional Track Meet, with five relay teams and four individuals progressing to the State Track Championships in Murfreesboro.
The boys track team finished with 48 points, winning the Region Championship in Division II-A.
Calvin Austin III won 1st place in the long jump, with Brayden Shelby finishing 3rd. Jon Flatt finished 4th in the shot put, and Sarah Luttrell finished 2nd in the high jump. Those athletes will compete in the State Championships. Also in the field events, Jesse Adkins finished 5th in the high jump and Ellie Arnett finished 4th in the long jump.
On Friday, seven of our relay teams won medals, and two individuals finished on the podium. The 4×200 of Cristian Santiago, Reggie Anthony, Nick Martin, and Calvin Austin set a new school record, while finishing 2nd and advancing to the State Championships. The 4×100 relay team also finished 2nd and will advance. The guys 4×400 and 4×800 also finished in the Top six. The girls 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 all finished 2nd and will compete at the State Championships.
Individually, Cami Bea Austin finished 5th in the 100m dash, and Calvin Austin III finished 4th in the 200m dash.
Our athletes that have advanced will compete in the Tennessee State Championship Track Meet on May 22-23 in Murfreesboro, TN.
