Harding Academy of Memphis announces the hiring of Aaron Spragg as its Head Coach and CEO of Baseball. Coach Spragg comes to Harding from Freed-Hardeman University where he was a graduate assistant coach with the highly ranked NAIA program. The FHU Lions record was 17-5 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other coaching experience includes assistant varsity coach, head JV coach, and head middle school coach at Lipscomb Academy, and head coach of the Middle Tennessee Knights independent summer team.

“Throughout the process of searching for our next head baseball coach, we prayed that God would reveal the unique individual whom He had selected for us at this time,” said Athletic Director Greg Eubanks. “After reviewing dozens of applicants and interviewing six finalists, Aaron stood out as an outstanding Christian man who has a passion for using baseball to influence others for Jesus. He will be a tremendous addition to our school community.”

As the CEO of Baseball, Coach Spragg will oversee the baseball program from Kindergarten to 12th grade. “We want our students to grow up dreaming of being a Harding Lion varsity athlete, and Coach Spragg is tasked with creating a love of baseball beginning with our lower school baseball teams and going through our upper school teams,” Eubanks said. “We have a tremendous opportunity to do that with all of our students being on one campus in east Memphis.”

“My wife Amber and I are so excited to join the Harding family,” Coach Spragg said. “I cannot thank Trent Williamson, Greg Eubanks, and the search committee enough for the opportunity to lead the baseball program. I’m looking forward to getting to know the students and families while continuing the strong tradition of what it means to be a Harding Academy baseball player. Go, Lions!”

Freed Hardeman University Baseball Coach Jonathan Estes said, “Aaron is an outstanding young coach that made a huge impact on our program in the short time he was with us. Aaron knows the game, but even more importantly he knows the young men that he works with and seeks to add value to their lives both on and off the field. I’m looking forward to recruiting as many players as I can from his program. Harding Academy hit a home run with Aaron Spragg.”

Harding Academy Head of School Trent Williamson added, “We are so grateful for our search committee who invested a great deal of prayer, time, and energy to identify the best person to build on the foundation that has been laid. Aaron and his wife Amber stood out among a very competitive field of applicants as the perfect fit, and we are incredibly excited to welcome them to the Harding family and to Memphis.”

Originally from Orlando, Florida, Coach Spragg played college baseball at Lipscomb University for Jeff Forehand. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Social Entrepreneurship as well as a Masters of Business Administration degree from Lipscomb. While at Lipscomb, he was involved in spiritual formation for athletes and has led athletic teams on mission trips to Mexico, Honduras, and the Bahamas.

Coach Spragg, his wife Amber, as well as their 4 month old boy, Noah, will be on campus in July to help with summer workouts, practicing the team, and hosting baseball clinics.
