Anthony Yarbrough signs with Clark Atlanta University

Anthony Yarbrough, Harding Academy Class of 2016, has signed to play basketball with Clark Atlanta University. Yarbrough, a 6’5” wing, racked up a number of honors while at Harding—state tournament MVP, district MVP, 2-time All State, 2-time All State Tournament Team, 3-time Best of the Preps, 2016 Best of the Preps Finalist, 2-time All Region Tournament Team, and 1000 Career Point Club.

Coach Kevin Starks said, “Anthony had a great career with us. He was a joy to coach and got better every year. I’m grateful and blessed to have had a person and player of his caliber come through our program. He will be an excellent player at the next level.”

The Commercial Appeal’s John Varlas said, “Long and lean at 6’5,” Yarbrough has put himself in the conversation for Division 2-A Mr. Basketball by averaging 20.7 points per game for the Lions. And he’s doing it with a skill that’s sorely lacking among many players.
The left-handed Yarbrough has probably the best mid-range game in town, consistently knocking down jumpers in the 15–18 foot range. He can get to the bucket pretty much at will and has the long arms and necessary athleticism needed to one day be a lockdown defender.”

Clark Atlanta University is a comprehensive, private, urban, coeducational institution of higher education with a predominantly African-American heritage. It offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees as well as certificate programs to students of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The University was established in 1988 through the consolidation of its two parent institutions, Atlanta University (1865), the nation’s first institution to award graduate degrees to African Americans, and Clark College (1869) the nation’s first four-year liberal arts college to serve a primarily African-American student population.
