Coach Ronn Rubio, 2015 Best of the Preps Sonny Winters Sportsmanship Award.

Congratulations to Harding Academy coach, Ronn Rubio, who was honored with the Sonny Winters Sportsmanship Award at the 46th Annual Best of the Preps Awards Ceremony. He was also the 2014–15 Best of the Preps Coach of the Year for cross country.

For over 46 years Coach Rubio made teaching, coaching, and caring for teenagers his main work. He has given countless hours of his time to Harding families, and he has taught hundreds of students the importance of glorifying God while having fun.

Coach Rubio is highly respected in the sports of cross country and track. He coached the 1978 Track State Championship team and has coached cross country teams to regional championships in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s and in 2010. This past season (2014), Harding’s varsity boys cross country team were DII-A West Region Champions and finished third at the state meet.

On Saturday, March 22, 2014, Harding history was made as the track on the Cherry Road campus was named the Rubio Track in honor of Coach Rubio’s marathon of service. The entire Harding community, including track and cross country alumni, five members of the 1977 State Cross Country Championship Team, and the Rubio family, celebrated the naming of the track with a dedication weekend that coincided with Bonner Relays.

Thank you, Coach Rubio, for your service, your “relaxed intensity,” and your life-long example!
