Walter Spears

Walter and his wife, Valerie, have one daughter, Madison (’20). Walter has been a board certified chaplain since 2001 and currently serves as a staff chaplain with the West Cancer Center. His favorite thing about his job is that he gets to live out his calling by serving as a catalyst similar to the way Jesus supported the disciples on the Emmaus Road.

Walter loves spending time at home working on lawn and garden projects with his wife. He also enjoys auto restoration projects and bike rides at Shelby Farms. His favorite Memphis meal is salmon and grits.

Walter’s favorite thing about Harding Academy is that it has been the place where he has watched his daughter become the young woman she is today. His Deep Hope for that school is that Harding can actively address social ills by continuing the Christian tradition of making disciples.
