This summer, Caroline Sisson (‘16) had the opportunity to intern at the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Washington, D.C. where she was able to grow in her professional skills while being immersed in the world of international human rights. The UNIC exists as the United Nation’s presence in Washington D.C. at the intersection of international and domestic issues. Caroline managed all of the UNIC social media and learned how to effectively create content in order to increase engagement on all platforms. She was also responsible for attending events throughout Washington D.C. that were focused on international issues pertaining to the United Nations. On average, she attended two Capitol Hill hearings and three D.C. think tank hearings each week.

Overall, she says her internship experience at UNIC-Washington fostered a working environment to keep her accountable for her work in human rights. She believes interning at UNIC made her a stronger leader, writer, co-worker, thinker, and civic-minded adult.

Caroline is a senior at Pepperdine University and will graduate in May 2020. She is majoring in Political Science and plans to go to law school after graduation.
