Laura Hawley to be inducted into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame

Mr. Tim Bruner, special assistant to the president at York College, presented Laura with a plaque for her induction into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame at our school assembly today.


Congratulations to Laura Hawley who will be inducted into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame on October 19.

Laura (Hastings) Hawley ’98 was a four-year starter for the Panthers volleyball team. She became the first York College player to record 1,000 kills in a career. As a freshman, Hawley led the team with a .330 hitting percentage earning her outstanding freshman honors. During her junior year she helped lead the Panthers to the National Small College Athletic Association (NSCAA) National Championship game where the Panthers beat No. 1 seed Dominican College. Hawley received MCAC recognition her junior and senior years earning All-Conference honors. She was also recognized by York College her senior year when she was honored as Ms. YC. Today, Hawley is a middle school math teacher at Harding Academy. Previously she taught for 12 years in Oregon Public Schools in Oregon, Wisconsin. In 2013, OPS recognized her with the Making a Difference Award for her work with at-risk and special needs high school students. Her husband Lance Hawley ’99 is a professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at Harding School of Theology in Memphis. The couple has three children and reside in Germantown, Tennessee.
