Rashad Oliver recently spoke before the Shelby County Historical Commission to petition for a historical marker to be placed at the site where Ell Persons was lynched in 1917. May of this year will mark 100 years since Persons was killed.

Rashad gave his impact statement to the commission as vice president of the NAACP Youth Council. After a year of advocating, the marker was approved. This important part of Memphis’s history will now be told, preserved, and commemorated through a historical marker.
