Kaylah Keys’ (’13) #22 Jersey is Retired

January 15, 2015 – Harding Academy was pleased to honor alumna Kaylah Keys with the retirement of her #22 basketball jersey. Kaylah is a member of the class of 2013. She holds that all-time scoring record for both men and women – 2,538 points. As a senior her accolades included: District Player of the Year, Region Tournament MVP, Miss Basketball Finalist, Best of Preps All Metro Team, Best of Preps Girls Basketball Finalist, Tennessee Sportswriters All State Team, and MVP of the Harding Academy 12–13 Team. The team record that year was 24-6 and they were both District and Region Champions. She was part of the 2010 State Championship team (read more). The presentation of the jersey was made by Harding Lady Lion head basketball coach Becky Starks along with athletic director Kevin Starks and school president, Trent Williamson.

Kaylah is currently a sophomore at High Point University where she is a starter for the Lady Panthers (coached by DeUnna Hendrix who flew in for the presentation). Last season as a Freshman at High Point, Kaylah was named Big South Freshman of the Week seven times, was named Big South Freshman of the Year, and was named a member of the All-Big South first team and All-Freshman team. She set a High Point DI single-season record with 583 points and averaged 17.7 points per game, which is second most in the High Point’s DI era. She led the Big South in shooting 84 percent from the free-throw line, which is the fourth best percentage in a season at High Point. She set a High Point single-season record for free throws made (148) and three-pointers made (73) and averaged a league-leading 20.3 points per game against Big South opponents. She also shot a team-high 34.1 percent from 3 point range.

In the Fall 2013 FOCUS magazine, head coach had this to say, “In 4 years of varsity basketball, Kaylah has left her mark and will always be remembered as one of the greatest athletes to ever wear the Harding uniform.” Harding is very proud of Kaylah and all that she has accomplished, and is pleased to honor her by retiring her jersey and number 22.
