On Friday, May 16, the students in the LEAP piano program at the Harding White Station campus gave wonderful performances at their spring recital. The Fireplace Room was filled with family and friends who were excited to support these young musicians. Their teacher, Charlotte Lane (’07), has given private lessons for the past three years in the LEAP after-school enrichment program.
Congratulations to Megan Cole who won three medals at the Extravaganza Art Competition at Trevecca University. She placed first and third in Art and second place in Poetry. Only first place selections qualified for the finals where over 3000 students competed. Megan placed first! We are so proud of you!
Congratulations to our 2014 Salutatorian, Mary Ellen Learned (left), and Valedictorian, Emily Grace Rowsey (right). In the fall, Mary Ellen plans to attend the University of Memphis and Emily plans to attend Harding University.
Congratulations to Jr. High (7th/8th grade) baseball team who beat MUS 14-10 for the championship!
The Harding Academy track team recently competed in the Division II West Sectional Track Meet, with five relay teams and four individuals progressing to the State Track Championships in Murfreesboro. The boys track team finished with 48 points, winning the Region Championship in Division II-A.
Harding Theatrer had a successful run of the intriguing drama Proof March 28-30. Winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and Tony Award winner for Best Play, Proof follows the life of Catherine, a young mathematician struggles to find her place in the world after the tragic death of her father who was a mathematics genius.
On March 31, a wish was granted for John Robertson, a sixteen-year-old from Cedar Point, TN. His wish was for a Polaris UTV. The Harding Academy Cherry Road campus worked during January and February to raise the funds to grant his wish.
The AP Calculus classes participated in Canstruction donating 4,412 cans to the Mid-South Food Bank. This huge donation of food helped us win the award for Most Cans. This would not been possible without the generous hearts of our Harding faculty, staff, and students. Harding’s entry is “No Hunger in Neverland.”
On Monday, March 24, Caleb Chapman, son of Grammy award winning Contemporary Christian Music singer-songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman, spoke to upper school students about Faith and the Arts.
On Friday, March 21, over 130 Harding Academy alumni, friends and family gathered for a luncheon that kicked off the Rubio Track Dedication Weekend. Guest speakers included Coach Rubio’s sons, Greg, David and Seth; two cross country and track alumni, Dale Sharp and Steve Guymon; and Harding Academy junior Chris Galbreath who is currently running cross country for Coach Rubio.
